Allergies

When most people hear the word allergies, thoughts of itchy watery eyes, sneezing and congested sinuses come to mind. What many do not know is that you may have allergies and never experience any typical allergic symptoms. In fact, allergies can be the cause of a whole range of seemingly unrelated health conditions including fatigue, headaches and chronic muscle pain.
What are allergies?
An allergic reaction is the result of our body’s own immune system releasing certain defender cells (immunoglobulins) in response to a substance called an allergen. Allergens can be almost anything including: foods, dust, molds, pollens, chemicals, or even electromagnetic radiation. For the allergic person, even brief contact with an allergen can produce a severe immune system response.
In order to be properly classified as an allergy, one of two types of immunoglobulins, called IgE or IgG, must be present in a blood sample. However, many suffer from the identical symptoms but do not have a measurable level of IgE or IgG in their blood. Instead, these people have what is labeled food or environmental "sensitivities." Sensitivities and allergies are both treated successfully in our office by the same method.
Where Do Allergies Come From?
Remember from the previous chapter that a healthy gut usually means a healthy person and vice versa. Most allergies are in some way related to poor digestion or leaky gut syndrome which allows undigested food particles to enter the blood stream. The immune system immediately recognizes these particles as intruders and attacks by releasing histamine and other chemicals. It is this release that produces the familiar allergic symptoms (itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing etc.).
Other allergies not directly related to excess gut permeability (i.e. pollen, dust or pet dander) are often the result of an immune system imbalance. The imbalance may be described as over-active (hyper) from either extended exposure to the substance or genetic reasons, or under-active (hypo) from excess stress. These imbalances may be corrected by fixing the gut.
Up to 60% of the immune system is located in the intestinal lining. It is our body's first line of defense. If the lining is compromised then so is the immune system, resulting in a potential allergy.
Once the gut lining has been compromised the chances for unfriendly organisms taking residence greatly increases. In fact, to correct most cases of leaky gut, the doctor must simultaneously treat to correct a foreign organism. Treatment is usually in the form of supplementation and “desensitization” to the organism itself (see below).
Restoring normal nerve communication
Allergies greatly upset the normal communication of the nervous and immune systems. Restoring communication is done through our low-force adjustive procedures, which are performed each visit as needed.
Re-establishing epithelial (gut) integrity
This is done through supplementation based on appropriate findings including the presence of organisms. It takes a minimum of three weeks for the gut lining to heal and longer if more than one of the following are present:
•Fungus
•Virus
•Parasite
•Bacteria
•Heavy Metals
Desensitization
Using Applied Kinesiology, the response of the body's structural, chemical and emotional systems are measured in both the absence and presence of an allergen. In the presence of an allergen the body "switches" to an adaptive/protective mode. When this event occurs, typical allergy symptoms are present along with other more subtle yet measurable signs identified with Applied Kinesiology testing. These include neurolymphatic, neurovascular, structural, and even emotional changes. Identifying and then reversing the subtle responses (desensitizing) is a key to the correction of allergies.
A patient can be desensitized to almost anything that produces a hyper immune response. This means that the immune system produces more allergen fighting chemicals than are required. Pets, chemicals, organisms (fungus, bacteria etc.), heavy metals and foods are the most commonly desensitized elements. In order for a desensitization to occur the patient must first be exposed to the substance. This initiates the immune response and produces a number of changes throughout the body such as subluxations, activation of reflex points, blockages within the energy system (meridians), muscle tension and more. Through processes not fully understood, correction of these changes, in the presence of the allergen will make the immune system less sensitive to the allergen.
Treatments take about fifteen to twenty minutes and are performed in-office. Following treatment the patient avoids the treated allergen for up to three weeks. This time period is critical to the success of the treatment. Without proper adherence to the prescribed protocol, long-term relief is not as likely. After the avoidance period, the patient may then eat or come in contact with the allergen and in most cases the allergy is completely eliminated.
Those who adhere to my treatment recommendations obtain excellent results. Our patients have reported consuming eggs and dairy products for the first time in years, the ability to sit in a room with cats, ridding themselves of allergy medications, sleeping through the night without the use of an inhaler, and reducing their overall pain.
What is the difference between this treatment and N.A.E.T?
Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique (N.A.E.T) was developed by a Dr. Nambudripad who specializes in acupuncture treatments for allergy desensitization. I do not use needles in my office. Instead I rely on subtle stimulation of acupressure points, neurolymphatic reflexes and other non-painful reflex points for the desensitization of an allergen. With N.A.E.T a patient must typically undergo a series of treatments for different groups of allergens. It is not uncommon to hear of a patient receiving thirty or forty treatments. Although this number of visits seems high, for the chronic allergy sufferer, relief is all that matters. Thankfully, our program significantly reduces the total number of visits. This is possible because our program addresses both the desensitization of the allergen itself and the correction of the imbalances that permitted the allergic reaction in the first place. N.A.E.T addresses only the former.
Conclusion
Allergies come in many shapes, sizes and varieties. In my opinion this technique is not just for eliminating allergies, but for strengthening the immune system. This leads to significantly improved health, and should be considered by all who desire to do just that.
