Dr. Scott Monk is trained as a complementary healthcare doctor. His current practice treats patients of all types with an emphasis on the correction of chronic illnesses (allergies, autoimmune disorders, fibromyalgia, digestive disorders, candidiasis etc.). Patients are analyzed and treated with a combination of Functional Bio-Analysis*, Applied Kinesiology*, personalized lifestyle programs, and nutritional supplementation. Dr. Monk spends a great deal of time educating the general public on a variety of health-related topics through this website, speaking, teaching, and writing. His latest book, is entitled, Hope for Health.
Dr. Monk received his doctorate in chiropractic from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri. Although interested in health and health related therapies, Dr. Monk did not pursue his degree in chiropractic until near the end of his undergraduate training at the University of Florida. In 1991, after experiencing heart beat irregularities for several months, he was treated by a chiropractor, specializing in Applied Kinesiology (AK). In the span of about ten minutes, through standard AK testing procedures, it was discovered that a deficiency in potassium was present. After taking a supplement for a total of one month, the palpitations stopped completely and never returned.
*Applied Kinesiology (AK) AK is a comprehensive diagnostic tool that analyzes the human body primarily through the neurological responses of muscles. It was originally developed in the early 1960’s and is currently utilized by many types of physicians: medical doctors, chiropractors, dentists, osteopaths, psychiatrists, and psychologists.
*Functional Bio-Analysis (FBA) FBA is a rapid, in-depth whole-person diagnostic approach developed by Dr. Monk. FBA utilizes the muscle testing of Applied Kinesiology, the energetic reflex points of the acupuncture system, and the hierarchy of the nervous system to evaluate and correct functional disruptions of body chemistry.
Dr. Shane Bartels utilizes a comprehensive, personalized approach to optimize his patients' health and relieve pain and dysfunction. He uses Diversified chiropractic adjustments, ACUGraph technology assisted acupuncture, Integrative Dry Needling, Class IV Cold Laser (LLLT), therapeutic exercises, specialized muscular stretching and massage (vibracusser), nutritional analysis and therapy, and patient education to treat the whole person.
Dr. Bartels believes in taking the time to identify and treat the root cause of your symptoms in order to heal the body instead of simply masking symptoms. He desires to help his patients move away from the current health model of disease care to a health promotion model, preventing pain and disease before they occur. Dr. Bartels knows that each patient is a unique individual with specific needs and he strives to give tailored, individualized care. He is driven by the idea that our bodies were meant to do more than merely survive, but to thrive.
Dr. Bartels received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from University of Western States in Portland, Oregon and a BS in Health and Exercise Science from Colorado State University. He has seven years of professional experience performing more than 85,000 patient treatments, bringing relief and hope to many. His passion for understanding the complex human physiology and providing his patients with the best evidence-based therapies keep Dr. Bartels constantly reading, researching and developing new skills such as Functional Bio-Analysis, as taught by its founder, Dr Scott Monk.
Dr. Shane lives with his wife Kelly and two boys, Kyler and Canon, in Littleton, Colorado. He is a pretty boring family man. He loves to get to the mountains (three times a year) for backpacking (2 hour walks with a stroller), camping (in cabins), and fishing (wading in a stream). He loves to play golf, basketball, workout (wrestles with his boys and does the hydro-massage at the gym), study and read, (but mostly just listens to audiobooks), and sing (in the shower).
